Tioga Senior Foundation grants $52,100

Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation announces its distribution of $52,100 released into the area to aid older citizens. Grants for 2020 were made to non-profit organizations that serve older adults in Tioga County, NY. Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation has followed its mission to grant annual funding to groups and organizations that provide direct help to the local senior population since its beginning in 1982. Including this year’s donation, the Foundation has now awarded nearly 2.2 million dollars toward projects and services benefitting senior citizens.

Despite being unable to fulfill all requests this year, because of limited funding and the uncertainty experienced recently, the fifteen volunteer directors of the Foundation name the following recipients in the 2020 competitive grant process:

• Four libraries making application – large print books and books on CD/DVD
• Catholic Charities Tioga Outreach – emergency assistance for the elderly
• Coburn Free Library – handicap accessible entrance/bathroom project
• Helping Hands Food Pantry – gift cards for recipients of food/vouchers at holiday
• Inspire S-VE – paving for safe building access
• Project Neighbor of Newark Valley – personal hygiene/dental items added for food package recipients
• Tioga County Open Door Mission – emergency assistance for elderly
• Tioga County Rural Ministry – emergency assistance for elderly
• Tioga Opportunities, Inc. – aid for food pantries and soup kitchen in nine communities; mileage stipends for volunteers transporting older adults to non-medical destinations
• Tioga County Foundations Coalition Emergency Fund – critical services to mitigate impact of COVID-19 pandemic in Tioga County
